Sticking to New Year’s Resolutions this year!!!!!

Every new year comes and we all make resolutions that we intend to keep, but so many of those resolutions are extremely short-lived.  We are so excited about making certain changes in our lives, but then we allow our old ways to get the best of us once again. So, how do we stick to our resolutions?

One of our biggest mistakes is not writing our resolutions and goals down.  We all know the saying, “Easier said than done”.  Well, it goes without saying that it is easy to “say” we are going to do something, but when we write our goals down, they become more permanent…..more real. So, our first step is writing our goals down.  We need to notate our goals individually, and leave room for the next step in achieving our goals. Many planners out there are designed with yearly goals in mind, however, I chose to go with the Erin Condren Life Planner this year for my personal planner. I love my Happy Planners, but it is always nice to try something new.

I bought a Happy Planner binder to enclose my Erin Condren planner for extra protection. I wasn’t too sure how I would be able to keep the coil binding in tact, so this seems to be a great way to protect it, and to also keep my personalized cover scratch free.

When ordering my Erin Condren Life Planner, I didn’t realize it would include a place for me to notate my yearly goals.  I was beyond ecstatic to find this when I opened my planner.  I was able to write my yearly goals, and now I also have room to notate the steps I need to take in order to achieve them. My vision board helps me to see my goals for the year on a daily basis, but this will help me to keep track of what I am doing to make everything on my vision board my reality. Please feel free to read my previous blog for images of my vision board and its perfect location so it is a constant daily reminder.

Because of the goals I plan to achieve this year, there are certain things I needed to change to be sure I achieve these goals. I’ve always been the type of planner to keep everything in one planner, but it makes it difficult to lead a stress free life when I kept both my personal and professional life in one planner. It actually made my life more hectic and much more stressful.  It made it very difficult to keep my personal life separate from my professional life.  So, I decided that this year I would have a separate planner for my business and social media life.  I went with the Mini Happy Planner because it is the perfect size for my professional activities.

I also decided that I needed to change a very important thing about my daily life.  I get so wrapped up in every day living, that sometimes I don’t always remember to give my day to God.  So, I have my daily devotional book that I am opening every morning before I do anything else.  In order for me to achieve my goals for the year, I know that I need to give all that I am to God because with Him all things are possible.

Aside from a daily devotional, I believe that it is very important for me to reflect on everything I need to be thankful for.  We live in a world that seems to be plagued with negativity, and it is so easy to get caught up in all of that negativity.  Unfortunately, aside from negativity, there are times when other people’s gossip and opinions seem to cloud our minds and cause us to stray from our goals. So, I’ve decided to keep a “thankful” journal.  It is a constant reminder that no matter what is going on in life, I have so much to be thankful for already. This journal is supposed to reflect the positivity in life and in the world.

I know, these intentions are all great, but how will this year be different from any other year?  I found the greatest guidance in the magazine section at my local Walmart.

Often times, the only motivator we need is ourselves.  What’s great about this guide is that it provides the self reflection needed in order to guide you in bettering yourself so you can indeed achieve your goals.  I highly suggest you check this out if you are wanting to become a better you.

It is necessary to carry all of these things with me daily, so sadly it means an over packed purse.  Thankfully, none of it is very heavy, so it doesn’t add much weight to my purse.

There it is, a plan to stick to the resolutions I set for the new year.  Once, I develop a solid system for keeping track of the things I do daily and weekly, I’ll post a blog about this system and how it is working for me.  Stay tuned for my next blog on why sticking to New Year’s Resolutions is important for entrepreneurs……like myself. Always remember….we have the power and knowledge to create our lives. What type of life are you creating?
